"White Heron and Iris" by the renowned Japanese ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige, 1797-1858. It depicts a white heron in flight above Japanese irises blooming at the edge of a pond.
The original artwork dates to the Edo period. This is a mid 20th century print published by T. Adachi, as marked at the back.
The text in the image is a poem that can be translated as: "White herons fly low across the fields, like a thousand flakes of snow; Yellow birds perch on the tree, like flowers clustered on a branch
Excellent condition. Lightly attached with acid tape to matte at left rim of white, not image.
