RARE Two volume Ancient and Medieval Geography bound as one by Johann David Kohler 1730 & 1737. Contains two introductory sections at front bound together, one dated April 3, 1730 the other February 13, 1737; Suggesting this may be a ca., 1737 edition where these were intended to be published as set rather than a later marriage.

Johann David Köhler Kurze und gründliche Anleitung zu der alten und mittleren Geographie: nebst 12 Landkarten. (Short and thorough instruction on the old and middle geography: with 12 maps). Published 1730 Nuremberg by Christoph Weigels. Frontis plus 12 maps, index, 107 numbered pages errata (menda).

Maps show Europe, Germany, Italy, Central Italy, Rome, Greece, Asia, Palestine, Africa, France in the 5th Century, Germany in the 5th Century, and Italy, Lombardy and Greece in the 6th century.

Bound together in same volume is Part 2 of the Geography, Kurze und gründliche Anleitung zu der alten und mittleren Geographie: nebst 12 Landkarten. (Short and thorough instruction on the old and middle geography: with 12 maps) published 1737 Nuremberg Christoph Weigels. 12 maps, index, 122 numbered pages, errata (menda extantoria).

Part 2 maps are hand colored, and shows the known world (Europe, Asia and Africa, Portions of Australia are shown but are linked to New Guinea.The Americas are not shown, nor is Antartica), Spain, France in the time of Caesar, Three Gauls after Caesar, France Belgium and the Rhine, the British Isles, The Alps including portions of France and Italy (Gallia cis Alpin), Southern Italy in the time of the greeks (Magna Greacia), Sicily, Spain in the 5th Century, Anglo-Saxon Britain, and Flanders in the 9th century.

Book is bound in full leather with decorative endpapers. Probable 19th century re-binding. Binding is in poor condition with spine leather coming loose and cracks at hinges. Top piece of spine poorly reglued into place. Text block is good and intact. Book is slightly musty, light foxing throughout, few faint marginalia.
