This remarkable polychrome gilt sculpture from Burma (Myanmar) likely dates to the early 1900s and depicts a Nat, a spirit venerated in Burmese religious tradition. Nats are generally regarded as protective spirits; the one depicted here on horseback is likely Min Kyawzwa, one of the 37 Great Nats as declared by King Anawrahta.

This piece has suffered some damage and shows signs of age. Some of the paint is fading or chipped. The horse's tail is missing, along with one of the tassels for its reins. There is a crack in the wood at the rider's waist, and both of the horse's ears are slightly chipped. The base is cracked in some places and missing some paint. See photos for details.
