A marvelous end table by the iconic father and son design duo Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, with breathtaking decorative engravings. This rectangular table was constructed from patinated and engraved bronze and pewter, with gold leaf applied by hand. Inspired by an ancient Chinese painting, the LaVernes sought to explore the relationship between human beings and their architectural environments with this design. The result is a lively courtyard scene with a composition bisected by a meandering fence and featuring architecture, foliage, and figures, among them frolicking dancers and an equestrian with his steed.

New York based designers Philip and Kelvin LaVerne are renowned for melding fine art with function, with their idiosyncratic style and unique design processes. With Philip studying under Ashcan school painter John Sloan and Kelvin receiving an education at the Parsons School of Design, their work reflects their extensive art historical knowledge, often drawing on Greek, Egyptian, and Chinese art. Their innovative construction techniques allow tables like these to remain in generally good condition, requiring little maintenance, due to their natural patinas. The LaVerne's work remains highly sought after, due to the high degree of precision and artistry it demonstrates.
