Traditional vintage Māori Waka Huia, a carved wooden treasure or feather box from New Zealand.

Crafted from native timbers showing carved sweeping curves and spirals. Elongated, canoe-inspired oval shape raised on small feet. Finished with figurative handles showing spiritual guardians with abalone inlaid eyes.

 Historically these were suspended from the rafters of a house, these sacred containers absorbed the mana (spiritual life force) of the items and people associated with them.

Measures 20 1/4" long x 5" x 4 1/2" tall, including handle

Excellent condition, shows minor scuffs and nicks in wood, as photographed.
