Italian Neoclassical Maggiolini Style Marquetry Drinks Cabinet
Embellished with the neoclassical imagery, complex borders, and intricate marquetry associated with famed Milanese cabinet-maker Giuseppe Maggiolini, this dazzling secretaire or drinks cabinet is a one-of-a-kind treasure. The dark toned wood is profusely inlaid to create striking vignettes, each side of the cabinet with two panels featuring detailed classical inspired figures in flowing robes. Bands of intertwined quatrefoils and floral motifs form decorative borders around the cabinet. The front of the cabinet is ornamented with additional scenes, including the honey-toned upper medallion, which depicts figures in a pastoral landscape, and is framed in finely carved wood with botanical embellishments.
The lower cabinet door opens to reveal a shelf, and the upper medallion swings down to reveal a mirrored compartment, in which the previous owner stored wine glasses. This cabinet includes a yellow tasseled key, as both doors can be locked for security.
An absolutely gorgeous piece with superb craftsmanship!

In okay condition. The upper cabinet has some loose hinges and a broken hanging wire. Should be relatively easy to fix, but currently has to be held up when you open the compartment. The wood is scratched/damaged in some places, primarily along the sides.
