HASEGAWA SADANOBU III Japanese Bunraku Puppet Theater Shin Hanga Woodblock Print

Original mid 20th century, Japanese woodblock print by Hasegawa Sadanobu III (1881-1963), a prominent artist from the Osaka school of ukiyo-e printmakers who successfully transitioned his family's lineage in the the mid-20th century Shin-hanga (new prints movement).  

The image depicts a stylized Bunraku, puppet theater figure dressed as a samurai or a traditional theater protagonist in a striped blue haori (coat). The artist is famously known for his detailed mid-century series titled “Illustrated Collection of Famous Japanese Puppets of the Osaka Bunrakuza.”

Attached to black matte, print measures 15" x 10". Excellent condition.
