Hindu Celestial Beauty (Surasundari or Aspara) Antique Indian Statue on Stand

Exquisite antique sandstone statue of a Hindu Surasundari or Apsara figure. Surasundari are young maidens who embody feminine beauty and grace, statues of which are often found at Hindu temples, where they are considered to be auspicious symbols of fertility. Apsaras are divine feminine spirits or nymphs who dance for the gods and are similarly known for their beauty and elegance.

This poised celestial beauty is draped in fine jewelry, including layered beaded necklaces, an elaborate waist girdle, and large round earrings. One hand delicately holds a thin instrument to her eye, presumably in the act of applying Kajal eyeliner. Her hair is carefully arranged in a coiffed bun. She rests on a 5"x5" black stand. The stand can be removed if preferred, but she is not quite balanced when freestanding and would need to be placed with care.

This is an antique statue that shows signs of age. Parts of her hair and her right hand appear to have broken off, and the stone is quite worn in some places. See photos for details.
