Dramatic Civa Statue D.H. Chiparus - Figure In Deep Lunge with Gold Cloak and Carved Face
Beautifully crafted "Civa Statue" after Demetri Chiparus, depicting a reclining female figure in a wide lunge, cloaked in a gold fabric that flows behind her in a way that evokes intense movement and feeling. Her limbs are elongated to accentuate her agency. The only part of her not cloaked in gold is her face, which is molded from imitation ivory. She is perched on a long black marble base which is signed in the back left corner by D.H. Chiparus.
D.H. Chiparus was a Romanian sculptor who practiced and made art in Paris, France during the years 1912-1947. His work is regarded as some of the most influential sculptors of that time. He was heavily inspired by the theater and performing arts.
Great condition. The corners of the base are slightly chipped. This sculpture is incredibly heavy.
