Carved BEARDED Man Grape Vines & DEMON Folk Art Walking Stick Cane w/ Cork Screw
Wonderful 19th century Americana folk art cane with incredibly detailed carvings and silver mounts.
The handle is a finely carved figure of a heavily bearded man with distinct facial features. Unscrew the handle to reveal a hidden corkscrew. This style of cane is also referred to a 'tippling stick' or 'smugglers cane' due to their concealed compartments.
The entire length of the wooden shaft is densely carved with trailing grapevines, leaves, and grape clusters winding all the way down to the tip. A creature or demon crawls downward through the vines, possibly a symbolic warning to the man about the perils of his drinking habit.
