$700.00

This antique Indian hardwood dowry chest is known as a damchiya. Also called hope chests or bridal trunks, damchiyas are built to store the valuable textiles and jewelry that comprised a bride's dowry. Typically from Rajasthan or Gujarat, these chests were functional storage pieces that showcased impressive craftsmanship with their elaborate ornamental hand carvings. Today they are frequently sought after as antique furniture items, sometimes utilized as console tables or simply for display.

A unique item with a long history, this lovely damchiya features carved geometric motifs, a row of decorative finials, and a spacious compartment for storage.
