Antique Japanese TSUBA Sukashi Openwork Iron Samurai Sword Guard EDO Period
Antique Japanese hand forged iron Tsuba or sword hand guard. The tsuba is mounted between the sword's blade and grip to protect the user's hands during combat.
Openwork (sukashi) design, possibly of the Akasaka or Kyo-sukashi school, with a lobed, rounded rim.
The design and craftsmanship suggest it is likely from the Edo period (1600-1868).
Measures 3 1/4"
Excellent condition with light wear.
