Wolfe Von Lenkiewicz "The Two Duchesses" Surrealist Oil on Canvas Painting
Wolfe Von Lenkiewicz is a British artist of German and Polish decent. Known for his artistic reconfiguration of popular moments in art history and visual culture to create new compositions that question common art historical conversations.
This particular oil painting depicts a cubist and surrealist look on the story of Alice and Wonderland. Alice on the left is carrying a flamingo. Her facade is split between a light blue surrealist style covering her face and a more realistic view of her blonde hair. The figure shown as the Red Queen appears to have three hands, two mouths and an enlarged, eccentric head piece that pulls the eyes towards it. Von Lenkiewicz made a study for this painting in 2011 on Japanese restoration paper titled The Weeping Duchess.
This unique and exciting painting would be an amazing statement piece in any room. Having a new modern take on a beloved childhood tale would make an amazing conversation starter for guests.
