This stunning and eye catching six panel screen is adorned with large swaths of gilt paper/gold leaf. In some of the close up photos you can see where the sheets were hand laid in a meticulous and rigid pattern. This screen was constructed and hand decorated in the Edo period by artist Komai Genki, who was responsible for bringing the Maruyama style into the lime light. This heavily affected the popular art styles of the late nineteenth century and had a lasting effect on painting in Japanese art schools.

This screen is signed on the far left panel in the lower left corner. This work is in great condition and is very large, please take that into account when purchasing. Folds up to stack six panels on top of each other to make it more transportable. Where the panels meet when folded there is some wear on the back of the panels.
