Roberta Youvella Silas (Native, Hopi, 1939-2009).
Painted Hopi pot, tapered sides with a wide shoulder and rolled rim. Hand painted with designs known as Skiyatki polychrome in dark brown and red.
Measures 6 1/4" tall x 5". Excellent condition, no chips, cracks, or repairs.
As found on SavvyCo.: Roberta Youvella Silas married a Hopi and lives at Polacca, First Mesa on the Hopi reservation in northern Arizona. She was active as a potter from 1960 through the early 1980s. Her traditional bowls, jars and piki bowls often incorporate bands of Sikyatki designs, parrots, lightning, clouds and feathers. She is cited in Hopi-Tewa Pottery by Gregory Schaff. Her daughters are also potters.
