Rare JOEL COTTET Oregon Artist Large Teal Ceramic SCULPTURE with Light Feature

$16,500.00

This rare, beautiful ceramic sculpture was made by local Oregon artist Joel Cottet (1948-2002). Cottet was commissioned by George Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars franchise, to create a prototype for lighting the driveway of the Skywalker Ranch in California. The original prototype can be found in the gardens of McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse. Cottet did not make a lot of sculptures in this style. So we can assume that this smaller teal version of Big-Red sculpture in McMenamins Roadhouse is a more finalized version of Cottet's artistic vision.

The mushroom top of the sculpture can be lifted off for easier access to the lamp-shade like feature. The stem of the sculpture is hollow for wires to be run through it so that you can light up the mushroom top! The glaze is a beautiful marbled effect, optically mixing indigo, white and light blue. When you get up closer you can see the orange/yellow of the clay shining through, adding a beautiful contrast to the teal glaze.

This piece is in great condition, the top finial has been repaired very well.
