Antique Japanese hand forged iron Tsuba, Openwork (Sukashi) design in very finely hand forged iron with gold and copper inlay for decorative elements. Showing the Kobayakawa Clan Kamon symbol. Kobayakawa clan's kamon (family crest) is the Hidari-mitsudomoe or "left-turning threefold tomore". This symbol consists of three comma-shaped, swirling, or magatama-like figures arranged in a circle. It is a traditional Japanese crest that signifies a, often associated with Shintoism and the god of war, Hachiman

The design and craftsmanship suggest it is likely from the Edo period (1600-1868). 

Measures 3 1/4" x 3 1/4"

Excellent condition with light wear. Comes in wood box with lid.
