Arthur Lismer (Canadian, 1885 - 1969), signed original oil painting on panel. River landscape in shockingly bright bold color, adding a touch of surrealism. Signed at lower left. Detailed wood frame measures 33 1/2" x 29", painting measures 29" x 24". Frame has some wear, light chips and cracks in wood, but overall good. Painting is excellent.

Arthur Lismer was a Canadian artist known for his work as a landscape painter. His subject matter often included landscape and ships in dazzle camouflage, and he was a prominent member of the Group of Seven, alongside Tom Thomson. Born in 1885 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, he passed away in 1969 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He lived in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for much of his life. Lismer was educated at the Sheffield School of Art, Sheffield, and the Academie Royale, Antwerp. His works are exhibited in the Nova Scotia Museum of Fine Arts, the Art Gallery of Toronto, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, the Vancouver Art Gallery, and the University of British Columbia Fine Arts Gallery. He was honored with the Canada Council Medal and was made a Companion of the Order of Canada.
