The base of this charming vintage Frederick Cooper double bulb table lamp depicts a playful safari scene, with one monkey dangling from a palm frond teasing another monkey perched atop an elephant with a raised trunk. These animals, as well as the palm tree that makes up the body of the lamp, are cast in bronze and rest atop a wooden base. Two chain switches, one for each bulb, resemble dangling coconuts. The oval shade is made of olive toned jacquard silk stripe fabric, and a pineapple finial acts as a final flourish to this unique lamp.
Chicago painter and sculptor Frederick Cooper established his studio in 1923 and began producing artistic lamps from fine natural materials. In 2011, the Frederick Cooper brand was acquired by American heritage design company Wildwood, which it continues to operate under today.
