Antique Raised Wooden Japanese Tansu Chest with Three Quarter Flip Top

Beautiful vintage Japanese Tansu, made out of oak and wrought iron hardware. This chest has useable handles on either sides and is quite heavy. This would have been constructed in the 20th century when house fires were less of a threat to the communities in Japan. The wood finish is in great condition and was handcrafted very well. The wrought iron lock is missing its bo, but a new one would be easily obtainable.  The top face of the chest flips up about 3/4 of the way back and opens up to one large compartment.  

Great condition, consistent with age. Slight rusting on the handles. Separating of the wood on the bottom of the inside compartment.
