Shirley Gittelson (American/Oregon), 1925-2015) framed original oil painting on paper, titled 'Iceland Poppies and Navajo Pots #6'. Still life of brightly colored poppies in a pitcher next to Navajo pottery. Frame measures 22 1/4" x 30 1/2", painting measures 22" x 30". Titled, signed, and dated 1983 in pencil at lower right.
As found on PortlandArtMuseum: Gittelsohn grew up in Portland and attended Lincoln High School and then went to Reed College. After a few years in California where Gittelsohn earned her BA in elementary education at San Francisco State, she returned to Portland where she raised her three children and began painting in her mid-30s. Her paintings were shown and represented in a number of galleries in the Pacific Northwest, including the Fountain Gallery, the Gottlieb Gallery, the Antoinette Hatfield Gallery, and the Cannon Beach Arts Association Gallery. Her work was celebrated in a retrospective exhibition, Paintings and Reflections, held at Reed in 2009. Reed has a large holding of the artist's painting in their collection.
