DEFEAT of the SARACENS After Raphael BATTLE of OSTIA Angelo Riggi Print
Late 19th century print on paper reproducing the fresco of 'The Defeat of the Saracens' or the Battle Ostia, painted by Raphael. The original painting was part of Raphael's commission to decorate the rooms that are now known as the Stanze di Raffaello in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican. It is located in the room that was named after The Fire of the Borgo, the Stanza dell'incendio del Borgo and was inspired by the naval battle fought in 849 between the Saracens and a Christian League of Papal, Neapolitan and Gaetan ships. In the painting Pope Leo IV, with the features of Pope Leo X is giving thanks after the Arab ships were destroyed by a storm.

Very good condition, some discoloration to paper edges, but does none detail of print.
Board measures 47" wide x 34", actual print measures 46" x 33".
Placed on board with cellophane wrap. If you would prefer the item be shipped in a tube for much less, I can remove it from cellophane. Shipping cost is only high due to size.
