White PARIAN Bisque Porcelain Raised WHEAT & GRAPE Pattern Handled Vase Pair
Antique Parian ware vase pair. Each vase in white bisque porcelain with ornate raised floral, grape, and wheat design.
Parian ware is a hard, white, unglazed porcelain developed in the 1840's to mimic the look and texture of fine marble, allowing for affordable mass production of busts, statues, and ornamental figures for the middle class. Named after the white marble from the Greek island of Paros, it features a smooth, granular surface that gives a similar semi-opaque, ivory-like quality, becoming a popular decorative item in Victorian homes.
Each measures 6 1/4" tall x 3 1/2" x 3".
Both are in excellent condition, no chips, cracks, or repairs.
