Incredibly well made and beautiful Wally Schwab studio pottery bowl. Schwab is a prominent ceramic artist from Oregon known for creating functional stoneware with simple forms and vivid, earthy colors. This definitely one of those pieces, most likely dating from the 1980's.
Heavy Stoneware with shadows and spirals of earth tones. Signed at base.
Measures 9 1/4" x 2 1/2" tall
Excellent condition, no chips, cracks, or repairs.

Wally Schwab creates simple forms with vivid colors, a blend of technical and artistic mastery. A staple of Northwest craft for decades, he has established the ceramics departments at Marylhurst College, Clackamas Community College and Portland Community College Rock Creek campus. He has also taught at Oregon College of Art and Craft and Catlin Gabel School.
Schwab is also an internationally recognized artist, and a recipient of the prestigious Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation grant. He has shown his work throughout the United States as well as the Victoria & Albert Museum, London and the first World Ceramic Biennale in Korea. He holds a BS from Portland State University and an MFA in ceramics from Alfred University, NY.
Wally Schwab has shown his work in The Gallery since 1968. His work is also a part of the collection at Museum of Contemporary Craft.
