Large 19th-century silver alloy inlaid brass betel nut box, from the Maranao people in Mindanao, Philippines. These boxes were used to store ingredients for betel nut chewing and served as ceremonial items displaying wealth and status.

Features intricate silver inlay work, in floral or scroll pattern known as "Okir".

Main hinged lids open to 4 more hinged lids and 3 separate compartments. One larger one at compartment at center with a smaller compartment on each side. 

Measures 7 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 4" tall

Excellent condition, oxidized patina, especially at interior.
