Antique, 19th-century brass betel nut box, from the Maranao people in Mindanao, Philippines. These boxes were used to store ingredients for betel nut chewing and served as ceremonial items displaying wealth and status.

Rectangular box with loop handles at each side. Main hinged lids open to 4 more hinged lids and 3 separate compartments. One larger one at compartment at center with a smaller compartment on each side. 

Measures 4 3/4" x 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" tall. 

Excellent condition, oxidized patina, especially at interior.
