Navajo Sandstone Native American Moqui Marbles

Pair of Moqui Marbles

Ironstone concretions found at the base of the Navajo Sandstone formation.
Moqui tribes that inhabited the Utah area used the small balls for marble like games and in slings for hunting.
The centers are filled with hard packed sandstone and the outer surface is a composite of iron, phosphorous, and lime.
Some scientists date these phenomena anywhere from 130 to 155 million years old. They range in size from small marbles to baseballs.
