Carl Zeiss D.F. 95 Binoculars for Germany Military, 1898-1900, w/CaseSale
Here is a very early pair of 8x binoculars manufactured by Carl Zeiss of Jena for the Germany military between 1898-1900. This was the first binocular officially accepted by and supplied to the German military, and underwent a handful of evolutions early on in its existence.
The very first models in the early months of 1898 came without diopter markings, and were sent back for modification. This particular pair has diopter markings, but early-style eyepieces, and a very low 4-digit serial number of 1134.
It probably dates to the earlier side of the time range, and features script engraves of "Carl Zeiss Jena, D.R.P." and "D.F. 95 No. 392" on the sloping brass prism shoulders.
Binoculars are in good condition with age-appropriate wear. Focus is frozen but seem to function otherwise. Case is present and intact, with noted cosmetic wear. Beautiful pair of early and rare German prism binoculars, unlikely to find another.
